Unfortunately, the Kentucky enumeration of the 1790 and the 1800 US Census have been lost[1] forever. Fortunately, we have tax lists to help us identify Kentucky ancestors. We can use the lax list in lieu of the actual census.

Below is the 1799 - 1800 tax list by name and then county. Stephen Jones is notated September 4, 1800, in Knox County. Of course, Harlan County won't become a county until 1819.
