Sarah Jones 1836 - 1919
|Sarah Jones 1836 - 1919|
Sarah Jones was born December 18, 1836 in Harlan County to Hiram Steven Jones 1801 - 1890 and Rachel Ely 1806 - 1894. A birth record has not been located. The birth date is taken from Sarah's death certificate located below.
Sarah Jones married James Turner either December 8 or December 12 of 1853. While it is not clear, it's possible December 8, 1853 is the date a marriage bond was written and December 12th is the actually marriage ceremony date. The marriage was performed by Acles[sic] Wynn, Justice of the Peace. The ceremony appears to have taken place in Sarah's father's house, Hiram Jones. Witnesses present were Mr. Walter Middleton and Mr. William Turner Jr. William Turner appears to be James' older brother.
Sarah Jones Turned died March 2, 1919 of dropsy. She is buried in the Creech Cemetery in Harlan County. Creech Cemetery is apparently located in an area known as River Ridge in Harlan County. There does not appear to be latitude and longitude detail to locate the cemetery. The Find-a-grave profile mentions the cemetery is located on the "Old Creech Farm". The map inset is a guess as to the location of the cemetery based on online google map research and historic 1954 issue of USGS Topo maps of "River Ridge" area. The upper of the topo is the Nolansburg quadrant and the lower half is the Evarts quadrant.
